Team Connemara places 5th at Spruce Meadows Battle of the Breeds!
Connemara Pony Inspections come to Alberta!
It was a quiet summer on the farm this year
with no new foals. The mares are having a well-deserved break from motherhood and all of Branni's youngsters are growing
up beautifully. Our yearlings have matured very well this year and some will be ready to start training this coming
spring.
This Fall has been a busy time for Alberta Connemara Breeders. Many of us were involved in
the Battle of the Breeds at Spruce Meadows during September 9-13, where Team Connemara came a very commendable
5th out of 13 entries! In conjunction with this event, our
booth at the Alberta Breeds for the World was a great success thanks to our many volunteers and Connemara
enthusiasts.
In mid-September, the Canadian Connemara Pony Society was thrilled to host past president of
the Irish Connemara Pony Breeders Society, Tom McLochlainn, and his wife Maire, for a series of Inspections in Alberta,
British Columbia, and Ontario. Rill Farm hosted an Inspection
as part of Tom's Alberta tour. Rill's Mariette (of Lavenderdowne Farm) passed her inspection and will soon be returning
home in foal by Branni. Rill's Fire 'n Ice (owned by Bridget Wingate) also passed her inspection in Edmonton.
Tom was very complimentary of Rill Farm ponies, and
was particularly pleased to see that our breeding stock has lots of bone and substance. We spied him taking
several photos of one of our senior mares and one of our home-bred mares, both of whom really caught
his eye! Tom and Maire were also very keen on Branni's youngsters and both were pleased to see the roan
coloring coming back into the breed. It is gratifying to know that our breeding programme is well on track.
